The Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) is merging the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI), the High Tech Systems Center (HTSC) and the Future Chips Flagship (FCF) into a new, university-wide institute. Research will cover semiconductors, quantum technology, photonics and high-tech equipment engineering, organized across four core domains: future chips, high-precision equipment, advanced materials & processes and foundations. The unified institute will engage over 700 researchers and deepen collaboration with regional champions like ASML and NXP.

By bringing these initiatives under one roof, the TUE expects to accelerate innovation where semiconductor and high-tech disciplines intersect. This integrated structure aligns with strategic priorities around the EU Chips Act and the Netherlands’ Beethoven semiconductor talent initiative. “The rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape demands decisive action from all European actors. A strong research and innovation system is essential to safeguarding our continent’s competitiveness,” says Silvia Lenaerts, TUE’s Rector Magnificus.

The new institute will be officially inaugurated in September 2025 during the Future of Chips event.
