Qorvo to shutter Benelux offices
RF multinational Qorvo is winding down the former Greenpeak sites in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and Zele, Belgium. Reportedly, talks about a redundancy plan have been initiated, but it could take another couple of months before the disbandment is finalized. Working on ultra-low power solutions, the Benelux teams are said to be dissolved because the ULP business is lagging – the merger with Skyworks, which was recently announced, has nothing to do with it. Qorvo hasn’t responded to an inquiry by Bits&Chips.

The Dutch site started in early 2005 as Xanadu Wireless, a fabless semiconductor company founded by RF pioneer Cees Links, focusing on energy-efficient sensor nodes using the Zigbee protocol. Two years later, the team from Utrecht joined forces with Zele-based Ubiwave, a specialist in Zigbee software. Together, they formed Greenpeak, combining Dutch RF chip expertise with Belgian protocol stacks. It created a company that could deliver complete solutions – hardware, software and reference designs. In 2016, the resulting success story led to the sale of Greenpeak to Qorvo for 117 million euros.
Headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, Qorvo specializes in products for wireless, wired and power markets. At the end of October, it announced an agreement to merge with Skyworks, a leading semiconductor supplier from Irvine, California. The combination aims to create a 22-billion-dollar US-based leader in high-performance RF, analog and mixed-signal solutions. The transaction, which is expected to close in early 2027, is subject to the receipt of required regulatory approvals, shareholder consent of both companies and the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.
