Intel has appointed former NXP and Nexperia executive Frans Scheper as general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He’ll be in charge of all the chipmaker’s activities in the EMEA region, which almost certainly will include overseeing the construction of a new fab. Reportedly, Intel has selected the German city of Magdeburg as the location.

Scheper made a career at NXP, rising up the ranks to become general manager of the Standard Products division in 2009. When this activity was divested in 2017, he joined Nexperia as its first CEO. Scheper announced an early retirement in 2020, but later accepted a position as co-managing director at Osram’s Opto Semiconductor business.
