Trumpf is under strong pressure from ASML to reduce costs. The German family-owned company is now transferring series production of power supplies from Freiburg to Warsaw, Poland. EUV drive lasers will also benefit from these savings. Trumpf considers production in Asia too risky.
The investments semiconductor manufacturers have to make in chip equipment are approaching 50 percent of total capital expenditure for advanced wafer fabs. ASML’s customers consider 30 percent more than enough. That’s why the lithography manufacturer is putting considerable pressure on its suppliers to reduce costs, while simultaneously demanding strong growth.
With the revenue growth spurt of more than 30 percent announced by ASML for 2027 and 2028, Trumpf’s revenue from EUV laser systems is expected to exceed 1 billion euros in the coming financial year (2026/2027). In the past fiscal year, the company’s revenue from EUV laser systems was 791 million euros. “I can tell you that the pressure on ASML is passed on to us every day, 365 days a year,” said Trumpf CEO Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller during the presentation of the company’s 2025/2026 financial results in Ditzingen. “They put pressure on us, but we’re ready.”
