A group of seasoned chip designers has established ICwaves as a new independent ASIC design firm based in Eindhoven. Originating from Philips Research, they specialize in the definition, design and industrialization of high-performance custom silicon solutions for a wide range of industries. With nine analog, mixed-signal and digital design experts, ICwaves operates out of the Twice startup building, located at the Eindhoven University of Technology campus. The company is owned by its founding team and employees.
At Philips, the team has built up extensive experience in the biomedical domain, designing chips for imaging applications and read-out of large biosensor arrays. With ICwaves, the focus will remain on high-performance sensor interfacing and digitization. In addition to delivering ASICs to customers, the aim is to contribute to systems architecture, proof-of-concept design, industrialization and field support. “We believe that the importance of ASICs is continuously growing,” says CEO and co-founder Sotir Ouzounov. “This is driven by the need to transform application capabilities through advanced system integration on highly specialized chips.”
In close collaboration with the ChipNL Competence Center, ICwaves has been selected for the European Chips Design Platform (EuroCDP) startup incubator program and is already pitching its business cases to European industry leaders and experts. It’s also applying to participate in the National Growth Fund program Polaris, which is building a strong Dutch R&D ecosystem to achieve global economic impact in the field of RF. For ICwaves, this will be an excellent opportunity to tap into key R&D capabilities and partner with industry leaders like Thales, Philips and NXP.
