The Dutch government, Invest-NL and Philips plan to provide more than 300 million euros to strengthen the Netherlands’ medical technology sector, Het Financieele Dagblad reports. The government will contribute 102 million euros through 2036, while state investor Invest-NL and pension funds will provide 150 million euros. Philips, the largest Dutch medtech firm, has committed a further 50 million euros.

The initiative aims to bring established companies and startups together in regional ecosystems and help young businesses scale. Dutch medtech companies are growing more slowly than the global market, which is expanding by around 5 percent a year, according to the government. Economic Affairs Minister Heleen Herbert expects the initiative to help generate 5 billion euros in additional exports, 11,000 jobs and 75 startups.
The government is focusing in particular on image-guided treatments using AI and robotics, as well as remote patient monitoring. It also aims to make patient data more accessible for technology development by 2028 through improved digital infrastructure, within the European Health Data Space framework.
