Process control in advanced packaging could become what EUV lithography is for leading-edge transistor scaling, says Nearfield Instruments CEO Hamed Sadeghian.
When Hamed Sadeghian of Nearfield Instruments recently talked to a key customer – and these days, talking to customers is almost all the CEO does – he received only one complaint. “Hamed, the data that comes out of your tools is exceptional. I’ve never seen it in my entire career. But I need you to become a big player like other equipment manufacturers. You need to step up in your local support and availability, so I can have the peace of mind to install your tools on all my lines.”
And so Nearfield is accelerating. Amid an AI frenzy that has the semiconductor industry firing on all cylinders, the Rotterdam-based manufacturer of semiconductor metrology tools raised 330 million euros to step on the gas. This marks the largest private investment into a Dutch semicon player ever and takes the valuation of the 10-year-old company to 1.4 billion euros.
