NXP gets a Huawei design-in thanks to US export restrictions

For NXP, there also appears to be an upside to the US export restrictions to China. According to The Wall Street Journal, citing third-party analysis, Huawei’s Mate 30 flagship smartphone now contains NXP chips as replacements for those made by US company Cirrus Logic. Both NXP and Cirrus sell mixed-signal ICs, such as audio chips. Huawei also substituted Broadcom for Hisilicon chips – Hisilicon being Huawei’s IC subsidiary. In fact, the Mate 30 contains no US parts at all anymore. The same holds for another major Huawei product, 5G networking gear. The Chinese firm told the WSJ that it would still prefer to buy components from US suppliers, though.
