Full-on strike at Nijmegen chip outfit Goodix

Chip designers at the Goodix Nijmegen office have been on strike since last Monday. The drastic measures follow broken-down negotiations about salaries and labor conditions. Employees demand a new and legally binding collective labor agreement, which expired after the company was split off from NXP in 2020. The offer of Chinese ownership to draw up informal guidelines has been rejected. Dutch management has been sidelined in the negotiations, according to labor union CNV.

Shenzhen-headquartered Goodix is an integrated chip design and software provider for biometrics and human-interface subsystems. It employs roughly 2,200 people worldwide and supplies customers such as Huawei, Samsung, Google and Amazon. The department in Nijmegen, acquired from NXP two years ago, focuses on speech and audio solutions.
