Phlecs has announced that its full-body blue-light medical device has received the medical CE marking. The device treats people suffering from psoriasis with blue LEDs, which are said to have beneficial effects, with a single treatment of about 15 minutes per side of the body. The Eindhoven-based medtech startup, which was founded by three former Philips employees with experience in photo-dermatology, plans to immediately start commercializing its product in Europe.

Psoriasis affects around 125 million people worldwide with symptoms such as redness, scaling and thick psoriasis plaques. Phlec’s device utilizes a specific light treatment to address plaque symptoms by inducing natural processes in the skin. It helps skin to renew itself and slows the production of skin cells associated with plaque psoriasis. Due to its anti-inflammatory effects, blue light controls unregulated inflammation and can alleviate the symptoms of affected skin.
