Global semiconductor manufacturing capacity is predicted to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7 percent from the end of 2024 through 2028, according to Semi’s latest 300mm Fab Outlook report. Key driver of this growth is the continued expansion of advanced process capacity (7nm and below), which is expected to grow at double the industry average pace: a 14 percent CAGR.

The semiconductor industry’s investment landscape reflects these trends. Capital expenditure on advanced process equipment is forecast to surge to over 50 billion dollars by 2028, representing a substantial 94 percent increase from the 26 billion dollars invested in 2024. This trajectory underscores the industry’s resolute commitment to next-generation manufacturing capabilities, reflecting an 18 percent CAGR.
