University of Twente axes 8 research groups
Striving to balance the budget, the Faculty of Science & Technology at the University of Twente is disbanding eight research groups, Utoday reports. A total of 63 employees are affected by the reorganization, 46 of whom are faced with dismissal. No minor or master programs will be scrapped, although clearly they will be affected.
Magnetic Detection & Imaging, Health Technology Implementation, Biomolecular Nanotechnology, Optical Sciences, Bioelectric Signaling & Engineering, Bioelectronics, Nanobiophysics and Complex Photonic Systems will be disbanded. These groups no longer fit with the faculty’s priorities, underperform in terms of securing external funding and/or contribute too little to educational programs.
The reorganization was announced last year. Management is looking to cut 7 million euros following four consecutive years of budgetary deficits.
