UT research team awarded for 3D-printed cooling in microelectronics
A research team from the University of Twente has secured the Thematic Technology Transfer Proof of Concept (TTT‑PoC) Award for pioneering a 3D printing solution that improves cooling in advanced microelectronics. The innovation, developed at the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering (TFE), leverages additive manufacturing underpinned by powder metallurgy and computational thermodynamics to tackle fundamental and technical challenges in thermal design. With the award, the UT team plans to validate the technology across the full microelectronics value chain, collaborating directly with designers and manufacturers to pinpoint high-impact applications and maximize industrial relevance.

Thematic Technology Transfer (TTT) is a partnership between the Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs) of TNO and the four Dutch technical universities and two tech-focused Dutch venture capital funds, Innovation Industries and Shift Invest. The KTOs work together with the fund managers to create and support high-tech spinoffs.
