ASML and the unions FNV and De Unie have agreed on a social plan that no forced layoffs will take place before 1 May 2027. Instead, the litho giant will first seek alternative positions within the company for employees whose jobs are affected. A company spokesperson told Eindhovens Dagblad that the number of layoffs could be halved, while FNV continues to push for zero redundancies (link in Dutch).
ASML announced earlier this year that it would cut 1,700 positions worldwide, around 1,400 of them in the Netherlands. The reorganization isn’t motivated by economic pressure; rather, it serves to declutter the technology organization and re-energize the innovation engine.
