Nexperia sues Wingtech and founder Zhang for damages

Reading time: 1 minute

Nexperia has launched proceedings in a Dutch court against its Chinese owner Wingtech and Wingtech founder Zhang Xuezheng. The Nijmegen-based chipmaker says their actions caused significant harm to its business but hasn’t disclosed how much compensation it’s seeking. Wingtech put the claim at 2 billion dollars and rejected the allegations, Reuters reports.

According to Wingtech, Nexperia alleges that its Chinese operations breached internal agreements and that the defendants built a separate supply chain in China that disrupted Nexperia’s operations and competed directly with it. Wingtech said it hadn’t been formally served and would defend itself if the court accepted the case.

The lawsuit escalates a dispute that began in September 2025, when the Dutch government intervened to prevent operations from being moved to China. Beijing responded with a temporary export ban on Nexperia chips packaged in Dongguan, triggering shortages for carmakers. The supply disruption has since eased, but Nexperia remains split between its Dutch and Chinese operations, and Wingtech remains its owner without control of the company. The Dutch Enterprise Chamber has ordered a probe into Nexperia’s governance.

Last May, Wingtech filed a lawsuit against Nexperia in a Chinese court, seeking 1.2 billion dollars in damages and restoration of control over its Dutch chipmaking unit.
