Intel admits to lack of external customers
Potential customers manufacturing test chips at Intel Foundry have dropped out. “Committed volume isn’t significant right now,” Intel CFO David Zinsner admitted at JP Morgan’s Global Technology, Media and Communications conference (via Reuters). The contract manufacturing unit is on track to break even sometime in 2027. This would require attracting low- to mid-single-digit billions in revenue from external customers. Currently, Intel’s product division is Intel Foundry’s biggest customer by a wide margin.
