Prodrive Technologies is taking a stake in Amsterdam-based chip security company Fortaegis and will assemble its ‘unhackable’ chip systems in Eindhoven. The partnership is part of a new international funding round for Fortaegis that CEO Boudewijn Wijnands in FD describes as “substantially larger” than previous rounds, which raised more than 15 million euros (link in Dutch).

Fortaegis uses the intrinsic physical fingerprint of each chip – due to production-induced micro-imperfections – to generate unique cryptographic functions. This architecture avoids centralized key storage, improves performance and enhances resistance to quantum-based crypto attacks. The chips are manufactured by TSMC, and Prodrive will handle assembly and integration in the Netherlands. Fortaegis insisted on a European partner to handle these tasks, says Wijnands.
