De softwaregeschiedenis herhaalt zich op multicore
Klaas van Gend is multicore-expert bij Vector Fabrics. Dit technologiebedrijf uit Eindhoven pioniert sinds 2007 in foutloos multicore-programmeren en softwareoptimalisatie door middel van tools, consultancy en training.

Er zijn veel pogingen gesneuveld om het vak van softwareontwikkelaar aan te passen aan veranderende omstandigheden. Klaas van Gend van Vector Fabrics houdt er een aantal tegen het licht en analyseert de blijvertjes. Hetzelfde doet hij vervolgens voor ontwikkelingen in multicore.
Het is het standaardpatroon van de softwareontwikkelaar: de cyclus van broncode bewerken, compileren en debuggen. Sommigen gaan hier binnen één minuut doorheen, anderen schrijven eerst veel code en doen dan een korte compile-en-run-slag. Dit patroon bestaat al sinds de ponskaarten en is opvallend weinig veranderd, behalve dat we dit nu doen met ondersteuning van syntax highlighting in een geïntegreerde ontwikkelomgeving.
