Dutch chip sector needs more help than funding, says figurehead
Eindhoven Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem calls for cutting red tape hampering the housing and infrastructure projects needed to support the growth of the local semiconductor industry.
The Dutch government should introduce a new law along the lines of the 2010 Crisis and Recovery Act, the Mayor of Eindhoven Jeroen Dijsselbloem said at the TNO Semicon Event 2025, held last Thursday at the High Tech Campus. According to the figurehead of the Brainport Eindhoven region, such a far-reaching measure is needed to make good on the promises to facilitate growth of the Dutch semiconductor industry, which is largely concentrated around Eindhoven.
Over a decade ago, the Crisis and Recovery Act cut a lot of red tape for large infrastructure projects, boosting the construction industry amid the financial crisis, Dijsselbloem said. He believes a similar course of action is now needed for semicon.
