The European Union has started investigations into anti-competitive practices of the Chinese solar sector. Two separate probes target two Chinese firms that entered into a tender to design, build and operate a photovoltaic park in Romania, a facility that will be partially financed by EU funds. Following a preliminary review of all the submissions, the European Commission sees sufficient indications that the firms “have been granted foreign subsidies that distort the internal market.” The EU can accept any commitments made by the companies to remedy the situation, block the bid or leave the situation be.
