Former ASML CEO Eric Meurice joins Intel board
Intel has appointed former ASML CEO Eric Meurice to the company’s board of directors. Along with Steve Sanghi, interim CEO of Microchip, he’ll start serving as an independent director effective immediately. “As successful CEOs with proven track records of creating shareholder value, they’ll bring valuable perspectives to the board as the company delivers on its priorities for customers in Intel Products and Intel Foundry, while driving greater efficiency and improving profitability,” comments Frank Yeary, interim executive chair of the Intel board.
Meurice headed ASML from 2004 to 2013, a period in which ASML struggled with EUV development while at the same time taking a decisive lead on the competition. During his tenure, three leading-edge chipmakers including Intel agreed to co-fund the development of EUV technology. Meurice’s CFO and successor Peter Wennink said that without the Customer Co-investment Program, commercial EUV production would probably never have happened.
Following Pat Gelsinger’s surprise exit, Intel is currently searching for a new CEO.
