Spinnov rises from the Bestronics ashes

Spinnov, the design and engineering agency founded in 2018 by Sjef Fransen and Chris Heger, has returned to full independence and is once again operating under its original name. Following a period as part of Bestronics International, the company has been reacquired by its founders, together with three strategic investors and long-term customers: Schipinvest, Brel Home and Common Sense Holding. Back on its own two feet in Veldhoven, it delivers end-to-end solutions across software, electronics, IoT, cloud systems and lifecycle maintenance.

In 2021, high-tech electronics specialist Bestronics took a majority stake in Spinnov. Two years ago, the group underwent restructuring following its acquisition by ING Corporate Investments and investor Oxgreenfield. As part of this transaction, Bestronics International was established, with two operating companies under its umbrella: Bestronics and Spinnov, which was subsequently renamed Bestronics Development.

Last October, Bestronics filed for bankruptcy. Bestronics Development wasn’t included in the bankruptcy proceedings and continued its operations without interruption. In November, parts of Bestronics’ activities were restarted. Throughout this period, the shareholders of Bestronics International and ING Bank worked constructively to safeguard the continuity of the development activities, engineering expertise and core teams within Bestronics Development.

“The reacquisition marks an important new chapter for Spinnov,” says co-founder and CEO Fransen. “Our strength lies in our team, our culture and our multidisciplinary way of working. Operating independently again allows us to further strengthen our long-term vision while continuing to take full responsibility for the entire development process – from industrial design and electronics to embedded software, AI and cloud platforms. This enables us to remain focused on delivering smart, reliable and scalable IoT solutions for our customers.”

“Continuity was essential – not only for our customers, but especially for our people,” adds co-founder and COO Heger. “By keeping the team together and staying true to our culture, we can continue translating complex technology into scalable, reliable, and intelligent solutions that create real value. Our strategic partners bring hands-on experience, deep domain knowledge and a clear understanding of the markets we serve.”

Although the strategic investors are active in different markets, they share a strong commitment to the development of IoT solutions, cloud platforms, connected devices and the intelligence behind them. Their combined expertise spans smart homes, smart buildings and smart farming, providing a solid foundation for Spinnov’s next phase of growth.
