The University of Twente (UT) has announced a future cap on the number of students enrolling in its technical computer science (TCS) bachelor’s degree program. This move comes as the program’s popularity has seen a rapid increase, from 62 students in 2015 to more than 400 this school year. To safeguard the academic quality of the program, UT has decided to limit the program’s enrollment, in line with similar CS programs at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven and Groningen, to a maximum of 400 students starting in the 2022-2023 academic year.

“Our degree program in technical computer science is very highly regarded, and up until now, we always found ways to maintain our high standard of teaching and learning”, says program director Vadim Zaytsev. “We increased the efficiency of our teaching methods and hired more lecturers, but we kept running into problems. This is a necessary step.”
