Huawei is being cut off from crucial hardware and software now that tech companies all around the world are working to comply with new trade restrictions imposed by the United States. Google confirmed it restricted Huawei’s access to the Android operating system, while several media report that US chipmakers such as Intel, Qualcomm and Xilinx ceased shipments to the Chinese networking gear and smartphone maker.

European chipmakers are also affected. NXP told several media some, but not all of the products it ships to Huawei are covered by the ban. Infineon expects the effects to be limited, while STMicroelectronics has yet to comment on the impact on their business.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has temporarily eased restrictions. For the next three months, Huawei is allowed to purchase components needed for service and maintenance of existing networks or handsets. Components intended for manufacturing new devices still require a license.
