Nearfield navigates in a perfect storm

Nearfield Instruments is pulling out all the stops to meet demand for its metrology systems. It has opened a new assembly cleanroom with the potential to ship 40-50 systems per year. Co-founder and CEO Hamed Sadeghian discusses the opportunities and growing pains. “We’ll also expand assembly in Southeast Asia within two years.”

“A perfect storm.” That’s how Hamed Sadeghian, CEO of Nearfield Instruments, describes the weather conditions for his company in the semiconductor market. In this perfect storm, Sadeghian is pulling out all the stops to sail close to the wind.

A ten-minute walk from its current location, Nearfield is expanding. It just readied a cleanroom with the potential to assemble over 40-50 metrology systems a year. The fact that the cleanroom was the first to be finished in the new building – and a handful of systems are under construction – shows the company’s priorities. In the shell, the offices, showroom, canteen and loading and unloading areas still need to be fully completed.
