The atomic probing metrology market for in-line inspection applications is a speed race that really took off this year with equipment orders for volume production. Bits&Chips speaks to Peter Jenkins, CEO of Infinitesima, an AFM provider from the UK.
Summer began brightly for Infinitesima with the announcement that its AFM metrology systems had been released for production by SK Hynix. The Korean chip manufacturer is going to use the British systems for in-line inspection of DRAM chips used in high bandwidth memory (HBM).
The significance of this win: the Korean chip manufacturer is by far the largest producer of HBM, with an estimated market share of around 70 percent. The metrology needed to make sure these DRAM stacks for AI systems are produced with high yield, comprises the biggest market opportunity at this moment for in-line systems based on atomic probing.
