Samsung fires up new EUV production line

Samsung has started mass production of 7 and 6nm chips, both of which need to pass through ASML’s EUV scanners several times before they’re finished. The new fabrication line called V1 will start to deliver its first products to customers in the first quarter. It will take the best of 2020 to reach full capacity.

Samsung was beaten to EUV mass production by TSMC, which announced commencement of high-volume manufacturing late last year. However, the Korean company initiated EUV production at the end of 2018 on a relatively small scale. These chips were used in its own phones, whereas the V1 line is a foundry facility.
