TUE integrated-photonics postdoc receives Else Kooi Award
This year’s Else Kooi Award has been granted to integrated-photonics researcher Yi Wang. Previously a PhD student and currently a postdoc at Eindhoven University of Technology, Wang explored various ways to enhance the performance and efficiency of active components on indium phosphide (InP) photonic chips. This is key to furthering integrated photonics since the active components don’t scale at the same pace as the passive ones.
The Else Kooi Award, named after the famed electronics researcher, honors recent work and stimulates initiatives that focus on knowledge and creativity in the field of microelectronics in the Netherlands. According to the jury, Wang “has made an important contribution to the emerging field of photonics. He developed a new process, designed several building blocks and successfully demonstrated their performance. His work is recognized in the world as is clear from an invited paper.”
Wang received the award on Friday 28 June at the Prorisc & Safe conference in Eindhoven. The prize, which was presented again this year after a ‘COVID hiatus,’ consists of 1,000 euros and a certificate.
