The Netherlands’ new innovation agency NADI and its German counterpart SPRIND have launched a 40-million-euro competition to develop energy-efficient AI chips. The AI-Native Chip Design Challenge will initially select seven teams, each receiving 2.6 million euros to develop their concepts. After eight months, three teams will advance and receive another 7 million euros each, alongside support from the two agencies.
NADI was established to finance high-risk innovations that private investors are reluctant to fund, with the Dutch government allocating 500 million euros to the agency. Modeled on the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, it joins European counterparts including Germany’s SPRIND and the UK’s ARIA. Teams can apply for the chip challenge until 30 November.
