The Dutch cabinet is proposing a package to boost innovation through new public funding, tax incentives and investment vehicles. The package includes 500 million euros for the new National Agency for Disruptive Innovation (NADI), the revival of the National Growth Fund with 333 million euros through 2031, an expansion of the innovation tax scheme and a new 3.5-billion-euro public investment institution targeting digitalization and AI, security, energy and climate technology and life sciences and biotechnology.
The NADI concept was proposed last year by former ASML CEO Peter Wennink in his report on the Netherlands’ economic competitiveness. Inspired by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), it will fund consortia of companies, startups and universities to tackle major societal and technological challenges. Jelle Prins, founder of AI firm Cradle, is expected to lead the organization.
