Report: Nvidia, Broadcom testing Intel’s 18A node
Nvidia and Broadcom are probing Intel’s 18A process technology, according to Reuters. Although there’s no guarantee that the tests will result in the semiconductor behemoths moving some production to Intel, their interest alone is a boon for the firm that has been fighting an uphill battle to catch up with TSMC. So far, Intel has only signed what are believed to be relatively minor manufacturing deals with Amazon and Microsoft.
According to Sassine Ghazi, CEO of EDA provider Synopsys, many more chip designers are considering working with Intel. “Right now, there are a lot of customers waiting – I’m talking foundry customers – to see the state of Intel. Will I commit? Will I not?” Ghazi says.
