Samsung is reconsidering its plan to acquire NXP, according to a report in The Korea Times. With an estimated acquisition price of 60 billion euros, the Eindhoven-based company is getting too pricey, sources familiar with the matter said. Additionally, as one of the global top automotive chipmakers, any attempt to acquire NXP would have to pass tough antitrust reviews.

Rumors about the Korean conglomerate’s interest in buying the Eindhoven-based chipmaker first surfaced in 2019 (link in Dutch) and popped up again early this year. The acquisition was said to fill in Samsung’s weaknesses in the contract manufacturing and automotive IC markets.
