Hengelo-based electronics specialist Sintecs joins VDL family

Through the acquisition of Sintecs, VDL Groep further expands its position in high-quality electronics. Founded in 2000, the Hengelo-based company focuses on the design and development of printed circuit boards, embedded software and hardware for complex applications. It also offers specialized services and markets its own products under the Scalys brand name. With 50 people in Hengelo and 25 in Vilnius, Lithuania, the annual turnover amounted to 8.5 million euros in 2025.

The acquisition strengthens VDL’s competencies in electronics development and manufacturing support. Sintecs specializes in areas such as linking design and production at an early stage. Its expertise in sectors such as high tech, cybersecurity and defense is a good fit with the activities of the new parent company. Under the VDL Groep umbrella, Sintecs joins TBP and Rena, two electronics specialists that were acquired in 2020 and 2023, respectively. They’ll work closely together to support customers early on in the design process.

One of the products Sintecs markets under the Scalys brand is the Trustbox Edge, a router-like network solution for secure and reliable data processing. Security is built in from the very first design step, for both hardware and software. The solution is based on Sintecs’ expertise in PCB layout, signal and power integrity analysis, hardware architecture and system validation.

Sintecs founder Hans Klos: “The acquisition by VDL feels like a natural and significant step forward for Sintecs and Scalys. With their knowledge, scale and technological strength, we can continue to deepen our expertise, innovate faster and support our customers even better. It gives us room to grow, while not only remaining who we are, but also further strengthening and expanding our identity.”

“Our ambition is to be a one-stop-shop industrial partner for our customers,” comments VDL president and CEO Willem van der Leegte. “In addition to our expertise in mechanics and software, we’ve already made significant progress in the field of electronics in recent years with VDL TBP Electronics and VDL Rena Elektronica. With Sintecs joining our ranks, our electronics expertise will be further expanded, particularly in the areas of development and support for the manufacturability and testability of electronics in our factories.”
