Court case reveals how a once-promising partnership between the Eindhoven University of Technology spinoff and the US equipment manufacturer turned sour.
Eindhoven-based Sorama has scored a legal win in its dispute with erstwhile partner and customer Fluke Electronics over the breakdown of their licensing agreement. The District Court of Amsterdam rejected Fluke’s claims of contractual breach and exclusivity violations, and instead ordered the US manufacturer of industrial test, measurement and diagnostic equipment to provide Sorama with full and accurate sales data related to products containing Sorama’s technology, so that proper compensation may be calculated.
The dispute stems from a collaboration that began in 2019, when Sorama licensed its acoustic imaging hardware and software to Fluke for integration into handheld and fixed industrial products. These included the II900 series ‘sound cameras’ to detect leaks in compressed air, gas and vacuum systems. A similar system, the SV600, was mounted on Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot.
